Dr. Lester Grinspoon is Associate Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He was senior psychiatrist at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center in Boston for over 40 years, and has authored numerous books which you can find the links to below.
Dr. Grinspoon started researching cannabis in the 1960's, out of concern about the dramatic increase in use among young people. He expected to find devastating effects, and was surprised instead to find a lack of toxicity.
Dr. Grinspoon experienced first hand the relief cannabis offers cancer patients, when his 11 year old son was diagnosed with leukemia and cannabis effectively relieved the devastating side effects of chemotherapy.
In 1969 Dr. Grinspoon authored "Marihuana Reconsidered," which included an essay about the thoughts and experiences of the author while under the influence of cannabis. The essay was written by "Mr. X," who was later revealed to be famous Astrophysicist Carl Sagan, who authored the book "Cosmos," and hosted the television series by the same name. Interestingly Carl Sagan's third wife Ann Druyan served on the Board of Directors of NORML for over 10 years and is now the Foundation Director of the NORML Foundation Board of Directors.
There is a strain of cannabis aptly named "Grinspoon, " after Dr. Grinspoon, which is reportedly 100% sativa. The Grinspoon strain has a distinct flowering pattern of popcorn buds.
