Diane Russell - Maine State Representative - September 27, 2013

 

Diane Russell is a Democrat representing District 120, the Munjoy Hill and Downtown Portland areas of  Maine.

A public relations expert by trade, she sits on the Energy, Utilities and Technology; Veterans and Legal Affairs committees.

Born and raised in Western Maine, Rep. Diane Russell is serving her third term in the legislature and is an outspoken advocate for working families and economic security.

Rep. Russell was named “Most Valuable State Representative” in the country by The Nation magazine in its 2011 Progressive Honor Roll.

In 2011, she led the fight to protect Election Day Registration and has become a national leader on the issue. Her opinions have been published in all three major daily papers in Maine, as well as Roll Call and The Hill.

She is a also frequent blogger for the Huffington Post. Additionally, Rep. Russell frequently appears on both conservative and liberal radio shows, and has appeared on the Sean Hannity radio show. Her work to end prohibition has been noted on NBC Nightly News and, most recently, featured in Rolling Stone.

Her primary issue areas include: expanding access to the ballot and protecting voter rights; getting money out of politics; ending prohibition; protecting workers rights; setting up a state public bank and addressing the heating crisis in Maine.

To that end she has sponsored or co-sponsored legislation on all of those issues.
