Brian O'Dea - November 9, 2012

Brian O'Dea - International Smuggler - Author - TV Producer - November 9, 2012

Brian O’Dea is a fascinating individual who turns lemons into lemonade.  Or rather marijuana into cash.  Starting out in Newfoundland the son of an alcohol brewer, Brian suffered abuse at the hands of the local catholic priest and began a slide that led to drug abuse, drug smuggling and prison.

While in the smuggling trade, Brian was running a trucking company, a fishing boat fleet and 120 men employed to bring marijuana into the U.S.

Brian got away from smuggling but not from the law.  Some 4 years after he quit, he was arrested and sentenced to 10 years in prison for the smuggling of 75 tons of marijuana.

After quitting cocaine and spending some time in the pen for marijuana smuggling, Brian became a venture capitalist, a drug and alcohol counselor, an author and a film and TV producer.

His book “High - Confessions of a Pot Smuggler “is the account of his experiences in both the marijuana trade and prison. The book won the 2007 Arthur Ellis award for “Best True Crime Book."

Brian worked on the show “Redemption” about convicts who once released competed for a chance to have a start up business and earn “Redemption."
